Rutherford - Watchtower Rewriting History Again?
by Stephanus infrom an article in the july 8 awake!
by a "ken payne", entitled i tried to serve two masters:.
what interested me was phrasing of the footnote - that instead of being autocratic president of the tower, judge joe merely "took the lead"!

Can't provide any specific references at the moment, but yes, this is part of the Org's continual rewrite of their history. Russell, Rutherford, and Knorr, are referred to now as ones taking the lead among Jehovah's Witnesses, or as part of the Governing Body at the time. Conveniently overlooking little details, such as the fact that Russell was never part of any organization known as Jehovah's Witnesses, or that the Governing Body did not actually exist until the mid 70s.
One recent article even referred to Studies in the Scriptures as "published by Jehovah's Witnesses!" Right...
Someday I suppose they will describe how Russell and Rutherford were early members of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses(tm).

Huxley,
You are absolutely right about the "formula" used. I noticed it too, including
4. Neglect to point out that the "solution" involves God destroying 6 billion+ people!!!

Would you ever come back for someone you loved?
by micheal inif there was someone you were crazy about who went back to associating with jw's again and they asked you to come back too, only because to live dividedly for the rest your life would be just too hard and awkward.
keep in mind your role would be very limited, few meetings a month, couple hrs service a month etc.. i know "if" this was before me i would feel that i would never ever want to come back.
i don't believe it is the truth, can't stand the control among other reasons.

No, no and no. I am leaving now, and I will not let anyone keep me in. I guess I use the same reasoning the BORG uses on new converts: "If you don't
accept the truthleave, how will any of your loved onesaccept the truth, get smart and leave too? If I stay, then there is no incentive for them to leave. -

When the governing body die off, then what happens ??? Another "new class"
by run dont walk ini am presumming that all of the governing body are of the "annoited class" and up there in age.. so what happens when they can no longer look after things, which should be soon, there are no other annoited really to take over.
and 10 years from now all the supposed "annoited ones" will be gone.. whta will become of the governing body ??????.
the watchtower must be a bit worried.. will there be "new light" and make up a new body ?????

What I find interesting is the fact that the number of partakers has been around 8,000 for the last 20 years!! It does not appear to be changing.
Obviously if the majority of these were persons were actually baptised before 1935, they should be dropping off at a much more rapid rate.
Somewhere I have a list of the GB members, age and date of baptism. I'm sure its on the Net too. There are only a handful of them that were baptised before 1935.
As someone mentioned above, I think they increasingly rely on the ignorance of the average JW.

WTS conspires to shield confessed mass-murderer and felon from authorities!
by reporter inmy questions are (besides the obvious): who is going to take the rap eventually for these heretofore unsolved florida murders?
whose innocent lives may yet rot in jail while this now baptized perpetrator goes free to share in field service and attend meetings?
whose victims' families are hoping in vain that this baptized felon gets caught while he is being shielded from "secular" prosecution?

There is a very simple way the organization could handle an instance like this. I suggested something similar in a letter to the Society regarding a confessed pedophile being reinstated after only six months. It avoids the whole sticky issue of clergy confidentiality which they seem to be in such in a tizzy over. Simply tell this individual, he needs to report his wrongdoing to the police, or be disfellowshipped, and tell him he is not getting reinstated until he has.
I realize this is not the perfect solution, and the idea that they knowingly hide criminals is appalling to me. But it would be a better policy than what they have now.

When did the WTB&TS "Jump the Shark?"
by El Kabong ininspired by the website of the same name, when do you think the society "jumped the shark".
for those who don't know what that phrase means, jumping the shark is the moment something (such as a tv show) begins it's downward spiral.
the name comes from when "fonzie" actually jumped the shark while water skiing on the tv show crappy happy days, complete with leather jacket.

My vote would be for the redefining of "generation" in 1995. Ever since then they have lost momentum, since they have no clear goal to hold out to the r&f. This and the advent of the Internet about the same time, seem to be having quite an effect.

famous jehovahs witnesses
by Rush inthis is my first post.. when i was still a witness myself, there were some perennial stories regarding 'famous' jehovahs witnesses or ex's.
does anyone know any truth or have any proof about the following: hank marvin, cliff richard and more importantly, the man who hit the gong in the 'rank' movies?.
if you have anyone of note you want to tell me about, i'd most appreciate it too.. cheers, rush.

Larry Graham (Sly and the Family Stone, Graham Funk) is still a JW. At least he was last year when he was on the District Convention in Rochester MN. I thought it was interesting to hear a multi-millionaire giving us all advice on how to 'simplify' our lives. how material things were not the important things in life. He is the one who started studying with Prince. Saw him at a convention too. Don't know if he is baptised or not.
Eisenhower's family were associated with the Bible Students. There is some info somewhere on the web that gives more info. Very interesting.
And the Wayans brothers were raised JW.

"Look! The Beautiful Country!", theocratic maps?
by VM44 ini have read here in some posts that one of the new releases this year is a brochure, "look!
the beautiful country!
", containing maps.. when it was released, does anyone know if the speaker mentioned how much better the maps in the brochure were than "worldly maps"?.

See, this is why they needed the UN library card- they were doing research for these new maps! What a perfectly innocent action.
For the dinosaurs, check out the Aid book. I think it was in the article on the Flood, that it mentioned that at the very latest, the dinosaurs were wiped out then. Noah brought some of the lizard 'kind' on board, just not dinosaurs. I suppose that's what happened to the poor mastodons too. Way to go Noah! What were you thinking?

Out of their own mouth
by uriah indid anyone notice that the latest km (uk version) in the article about the new circuit assembly program said in the last paragraph.
that 'jehovah himself has prepared this spiritual food...and that we would all cry out with joy if we attend all the sessions'?.
this must have slipped through the censor

Its in the US edition of the KM as well. I read that and just shook my head. So how exactly does this work? Does Jehovah send it out via email, or is it FedExed over to Patterson?
